Dear Alborada fans,
In spite of the economic crisis we enjoyed an almost full house for our 6th Annual Gala. This year we honored 2 people: Robert Johnson, the Dance Critic for the Star Ledger, who has been tremendous in his write-ups for Alborada, both with Previews as well as Reviews. He has been totally honest in writing about what he saw and we have grown because of his words of wisdom.
The other Honoree was our Set Designer, Charles Seal, who has been with us in 2 capacities for the past 8 years, both as Set Designer and Board member. Both these wonderful people have helped put Alborada on the map and into the eyes of the public and we thank them profusely.
Again the Gala was held at RiaMar in South River, one of our biggest corporate sponsors. The food was great, the music of Donny Pesce was great. Some of the principals and company members gave the entertainment. It was a blast. OLE!
Although we saw a decrease in our audience members in our Theatre concerts (due to the economic situation) we are enjoying a fabulous year. More than 50 school concerts, 8 library shows, corporate shows, outreach performances at assisted living facilities (which is our way of giving back) and 11 festivals. And we will set a record in the amount of shows performed during a fiscal year; in fact I do believe we have already surpassed it, even with one month and a half to go.
We have a super Autumn season coming up. Our Grant Concert "The Journey", a repeat of our popular "Celtic Connection" a Mini Feria, and next Spring a full concert again of our FERIA (which achieved great acclaim at the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts, in Morristown this past May 3rd.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support, and for your being part of Alborada.
Eva Lucena
Artistic Director
